A little more insight into why Sarah Palin was able to resign as governor of Alaska last summer: The advance for that forthcoming memoir of hers was $1.25 million.

Going Rogue -- or Going Rouge as satirists have dubbed it -- will be out Nov. 17. Palin, the 2008 GOP nominee for vice president, stepped out of office in July.

A disclosure statement released today about Palin's finances from Jan. 1 to July 27, when she resigned as Alaska governor, shows she received $1.25 million from publisher HarperCollins for her memoirs. She refers to the payment as a "retainer.''

It's likely that Palin will make more after publication. Going Rogue jumped to No. 1 on Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble.com after HarperCollins announced that it had advanced the release date of 1.5 million copies by several months. The book is No,. 6 on Amazon now, and 11 at Barnes & Noble.

Palin will make an appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show the day before the book's release.
